Dr. An Vranckx
Biography
An Vranckx studied at VUB departments of arts, law, and pedagogy, as well as the engineering department's post-master program on Science Dynamics and Technology Development. She was a researcher-in-training at the University of Amsterdam and student at the Belgian Royal Higher Institute for Defence.
Upon completing an interdisciplinary doctorate on science for policy, she spent over two decades as a researcher, coordinator and policy advisor at security research and documentation centers in Belgium, London, Bonn and Bogotá. She conducted globe-spanning research and consultancy missions in support of United Nations' efforts to stem the illicit spread of conventional arms, while also promoting women/peace/security clusters. Additionally, An served on various expert panels and lectured at the universities of Antwerp and Ghent, as well as various university colleges that include the UCR/Utrecht University. She covered a wide range of cooperation and security-related subjects in academic journals and monographs, as well as in restricted access policy reports.
As of 2021, An took up a support role at institutes for higher education, with a particular passion for enabling (international) cooperation. At MOBI, she reconnects with her fascination for technology development and desire to help accelerate a global transition to move beyond the use of fossil fuels.
