Spatial and attentive perception in resilient Pocket parks
The HER research questions the link between outdoor environment, its perception and its effect on our minds. Environment? Small-scale public spaces, our familiar surroundings, whether residential or for our daily activities. Perception? These are mainly public resting infrastructure and its green natural surroundings, lit in the evening or at night. The effect on our health? The idea is to offer everyone a place and a time in their own familiar environment, with the possibility of choosing the lighting at night. More generally, this research focuses on the link between observation of our daily environment and our cognitive functions: learning, memory, reasoning.
Tools

HER research uses two tools for this purpose: the survey and the living lab.The first part, the survey, questions the memory of our perception of places. It questions our use of Pocket Parks, what we like to find there and what we like to do there. The second part is the living lab installed on VUB Campus Pocket Park, designed by MOBI researcher Iris Pissens, and set up in collaboration with INFRA VUB, behind Basic-FIT. This is a participatory action in real conditions. This part aims to stimulate our attentive observation of the environment and offer us a moment of relaxation. The installation allows modulating the light with different light sources (colour, illuminance, beam angle).

Results
What results at the end of HER research? The results of the study will indicate the final lamps and colour ranges chosen by the participants for this space. The VUB's Pocket Park is here to stay : users will continue to use the I-Terra (Schréder) application on the VUB campus and choose their personal lighting mood control.
Survey
This experiment consists of two parts: HER Survey I and HER Survey II.
· HER Survey I is an online questionnaire.
· HER Survey II is a participative experiment at the VUB on the Etterbeek Campus.
Filling in the HER Survey I questionnaire will take you about 10 minutes.
HER Survey I is the preliminary survey. It asks general questions about your appreciation of the qualities and uses of local public spaces. We encourage everyone to participate: frequent users of the VUB Campus or not, familiar with Brussels and its green spaces or not.
Your participation is entirely voluntary; you can of course end it at any time.
Filling in the HER Survey I questionnaire in no way commits you to coming to the VUB to take part in HER Survey II.
When to take part online in HER Survey I?
Before 8 July 2024.
