What is it about ?
The MOBI Research Center (MOBI) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), and specifically its research group EVERGi is leading the state-of-art research in terms of Smart Multi-Energy Grids and smart integration of Electromobility. In addition it carries out its experiments in the Green Energy Park, a top-notch real-life laboratory in the close vicinity of Brussels. As such it aims to contribute strongly to the transition to a decarbonized world with new sustainable energy and mobility systems. The EVERGi team is involved in many European and national R&D
projects that create seamless collaboration between energy stakeholders and industrial technology solutions developers. Currently, EVERGi runs s
everal projects that focus optimal integration of electric vehicles in the grid, whereby it develops in collaboration with the industry uni- and bidirectional smart charging algorithms that contribute to maximal use of renewables for mobility and stationary energy use. These algorithms are implemented and validated in our innovative electric parking lot at the GEP.
What will you do ?
EVERGi wants to strengthen its team by hiring a researcher-PhD candidate who will work on several National and European projects focused on the integration of electric vehicles in the grid. You will be responsible for developing AI-based charging optimization algorithms to be implemented in energy management systems For that purpose you will simulate energy systems and in and their interactions with the energy markets. You will validate these algorithms in real-life circumstances. You will write papers on the topic and present them in international conferences. After four years you submit a PhD dissertation and obtain a PhD Degree.
What do we expect?
You are a motivated engineer with a strong interest in the sustainable grid of tomorrow, who can work independently on projects in an international environment and with the industry. You hold an academic or professional master degrees in engineering and have at least a basic knowledge of Python. In addition you are a good communicator that can write fluently in English and Proficiency in Dutch is a plus (not a must). You are a team player and willing to attend project meetings as well as conferences abroad.
