What is it about?
The MOBI Research Center (MOBI) at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), and specifically its team EVERGi, is leading the state-of-art research in terms of Sustainable Energy Communities and Electric Mobility. As such it aims to contribute strongly to the development of a new sustainable energy and mobility system. The EVERGi team is involved in several projects which that create seamless collaboration between energy stakeholders and solutions developers. These projects use a marketplace that ensures secure data flows between data providers and solution providers, resulting in new data-driven business models, enhanced energy asset management and consumer participation in energy balancing.
What will you do?
EVERGi wants to strengthen its team by hiring a researcher- PhD candidate who will work on several National and European projects focused on the implementation of Big Data Analytics and Machine Learning in Smart Grids. You will be responsible (analytics, modeling, machine learning) for algorithm development in smart grid related

applications.You will develop products and services to improve the planning, monitoring, operation and maintenance of electric distribution grids and energy assets, all made available at an open innovation marketplace. Your results are tested and validated in a large-scale living lab in the vicinity of Brussels. You will write papers on the topic and present them in international conferences. After four years you submit a PhD dissertation and obtain a PhD Degree.
What do we expect?
You are a motivated researcher who can work independently on projects in an international environment and have a good academic record, with a master’s degree in Computer Science/Electrical Engineering, with a strong interest in Big Data Analytics and Machine Learning Implementation, preferably with a strong interest in the energy transition. You are a good communicator that can write fluently scientific articles in English. Proficiency in Dutch is a plus – however, not mandatory. You are a team player and willing to attend project meetings as well as conferences abroad.
