The position is in the Faculty of Engineering Sciences of Vrije Universiteit Brussel. The candidate will work in the research centre MOBI (Mobility, Logistics and Automotive Technology Research Centre). MOBI is a top-notch research group with an international reputation in the fields of sustainable transport and its integration in the energy system. It has an international and multidisciplinary team of 100 specialists and currently participates in 25 running EU projects.
MOBI is now involved in a University Strategic Research Program on the topic of automated vehicles. The program addresses the impact of vehicle automation on the mobility and logistics system in particular, and on society as a whole, taking into account technical and societal aspects. We are offering a 4 year scholarship for a phd in data science for automated vehicles. It will address the optimal energetic management of a fleet of automated electric vehicles and their integration in in the electric grid with the maximal use of renewables. The answer will be generated through modelling of automated vehicles at individual and fleet level based on real-life driving (big) data, the calculation of aggregated fleet routing for lowest consumption through multi-agent and network models, the development of self-learning algorithms, and the integration of the charging scheme in the management of an electricity grid in a vehicle-to-grid context.
