The battery is a key challenge for today's and tomorrow’s mobility. Understanding its state of health allows us to estimate a vehicle's residual value, optimize its lifespan, and reduce its carbon footprint.
At the heart of the Free University of Brussels, the Electromobility Research Center (MOBI), which includes the Battery Innovation Center (BIC), has been working for decades on the challenges of electric mobility. Through its all-in-one comprehensive offering tailored to business needs, Watèa provides battery electric vehicles, access to charging infrastructure, and digital services, ensuring business continuity.
"Collaborating with MOBI-BIC allows Watèa to benefit from its long-standing and internationally recognized scientific and technical expertise. The ongoing research will help understand how driving and charging behaviors influence battery longevity, us anticipate future battery technologies entering the market, and explore smart charging solutions and their integration into our offering." François BIZET, Lead Data Scientist at Watèa by Michelin.
“This successful research collaboration with Watèa has not only extended our knowledge of battery health estimation considering real-world scenarios but also enriched our portfolio. The collaboration is an excellent example of how we can bridge lab-level understandings and application-level implementation of battery algorithms. The developed knowledge will pave the way to explore further research directions.” Md Sazzad Hosen, Research Professor at MOBI-BIC, VUB.
Thanks to this partnership, Watèa has already implemented regular monitoring of battery health indicators for all its customers’ vehicles. These indicators are based on the analysis of customers’ charging habits. This is an important first step toward deploying solutions to extend vehicle lifespan. Decarbonizing mobility also depends on this!
