Biography
MOHAMED EL BAGHDADI holds a master’s (electromechanical engineer) and doctor’s degree in Engineering Sciences, obtained at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium. After obtaining his M.Sc. degree (2009), his research focused on control engineering in the steel manufacturing’s hot-strip rolling process. From 2011 on, his research was focused on electric and hybrid vehicles, drivetrain modeling & testing and wireless charging systems, while contributing to numerous national and European research projects in these fields and working as an academic teaching assistant. Since 2018, he worked as a post-doctoral researcher in the field of power electronics, electric machines and (hybrid) electric vehicle powertrains at VUB’s MOBI research centre, where he leads the vehicle technology and connectivity team since 2019.
His activities include research and management of national and European projects in the domains of power electronics, electric propulsion, electric and hybrid vehicle powertrains and (wireless) charging. His main research interests are vehicle powertrains & connectivity/IoT, power & energy management, design, control & optimization, (digital twin) simulation and system testing. He is professor at the Electrical Engineering and Energy Technology department of VUB and teaching power electronics and electric drives courses in academia and industry. He is co-director of EPOWERS – Efficient Power Electronics, Powertrain and Energy Solutions – research group, acting as manager for MOBI core lab within Flanders Make and member of EPE – European Power Electronics – association.
