Today, we don’t have an accurate view of the actual share of construction transport in urban traffic. This has a profound impact on how we approach the sector and its environmental nuisances.
Together with the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium), Linköping University (Sweden) and SINTEF (Norway), we recently published a paper on this data availability issue in the sector, which was highlighted as part of the World Sustainable Built Environment Conference 2020 earlier this week. You can rewatch the paper presentation here: https://player.vimeo.com/video/476365471?app_id=122963
By developing the presented impact assessment framework, we aim to shine a light on transport movements in the sector using robust methodologies and state-of-the-art metrics, and ultimately propose more sustainable and financially beneficial solutions to companies and local authorities across the construction logistics sector.
If you want to find out more about how we plan to improve impact assessments towards emission-free construction logistics, this article offers insights in the advancements of the European MIMIC project, along with an intermediate project report: http://www.mimic-project.eu/en/news/improved-impact-assessments-towards-emission-free-construction-logistics.
